As a Dating Expert who has both lived in a few different metro regions (New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles/The OC and Las Vegas) as well as worked with singles in a number of different cities both within the United States as well as around the world, one of the considerations a number of singles have is they want to meet, date, and mate with another single in their local area.

Yes, you will see on some of the online dating niche sites, like those which are faith based for Muslims, Christian or Jewish Singles, is that the single will often make some statement like, “Distance is no object.” They think the are open to loving and partnering up with another single from any where in the country.
And in a manner, they are open like that. They are open to love coming to them from just about anywhere.
And then reality kicks in.
In order to really fall in love, to attract your Soul Mate and build a relationship, you actually need to open up and share each others lives together. Courtship which leads to marriage requires that you share your lives and actually BE with each other. So much of the dating style of the “Single – Never Married” folks is to either “hang” on the sofa and watch movies, while fun, eventually becomes boring, or to go do the consumer single dating style of going “out” all the time. Neither of these models is actually what we DO in the normal LIFE of a married couple/life partner relationship. When I coach singles who are divorced or widowed and we get to that part of my coaching system, they say, “OMG, April, you are brilliant! This is so true!” (I heard this today from one widowed lady.) And they can see how I approach relationship attraction and building form reality and not from some pipe dream which will never happen.
Real relationships are between human beings. There are some crass metaphors for describing this which I will refrain from using to illustrate my point.
When you are looking to attract love and build a life partner relationship, generally speaking, to do so you need to be in person. In order to experience that, this means you want to date another single who is local to you or at least in your metro area region. That can still mean that they live a few hours away from you. However, unless you travel to certain metro areas repeatedly for business, you want to keep your targets on another single who lives within a few hours of you, and not thousands miles away, which would be just fooling yourself.
Then you actually have a chance of attracting, meeting, and mating with your Soul Mate and developing the kind of lifelong love relationship which you are craving.
Happy Dating and Relationships,

With my work as a dating and relationship coach, I have the fun privilege of seeing a lot of happy brides and grooms connect and hook up and get married. My mother had her Wedding Attending Dress. I have this sparkling coral crochet number which is starting to become MY Wedding Attending Dress.
Well, don't blame it on President Obama because he has only been in office for 9 months. But we really ARE in a down economy.
And a lot of brides and grooms want to have a Budget Wedding and keep things Frugal and Cheap for their nuptials. Yes, you can just bop over to the Justice of the Peace or wing it in Vegas or Reno (Have you seen "The Women"? the original? that is my FAVORITE Reno, NV tribute!).
What about the rest of you who want to celebrate your special day on a show string budget?
Well check out http://www.weddingplanningontheweb.com/
Resources for the Frugally minded bride who is more interested in investing her buckage on her house than on a 1-Day party (however fabulous)

In between, I am not taking any new dates and am packing lots of boxes and jettisoning STUFF!
On the romantic sex singles dating sphere, that is an excellent metaphor for all of us: jettison STUFF to make room for a new girlfriend or boyfriend.
How many bags and boxes can YOU donate to Goodwill?

With all the media approaching me this week as a Online Dating Coach and Dating Expert, I'm continuing my series this week in support of dating singles and committed couples - both of the significant others ilk and married folks on Romance Tips to survive and thrive through Valentine's Day 2009. Yeah and without breaking the bank!
Because if you are like me, you didn't receive a $17,000.00 stimulus check from the US Government to bail out your auto industry business or to buy your house at an overinflated price.
So, what I'm saying is, your purchasing Valentine's Day presents this year, you're on your own.
Me too.
I'll be footing my own bill.
So today I want to cover the topic of CHOCOLATES.
Giving Chocolates is in the formal socially acceptable gifts which a single man may give to a single woman. I'm talking formal manners, Emily Post etc. So some women, because of the long-standing tradition of men giving chocolates to esteem a lady fair, still receive the present as an accolades. Her Dad may have given them to her mom, so even though she doesn't want the calories, in her heart of hearts, she is still tenderly touched by the gift.
So, let me help you out here.
5 lbs boxes of Nut & Chews from See's were a GREAT business gift at Christmas time, but not at Valentine's Day.
Most modern women are not yearning for chocolate.
We are all on diets like Atkins and Southbeach Diet.
However, so what that means is, we would never go purchase chocolate ourselves.
We might even not directly want you to purchase them for us.
However, we will still enjoy the guilty pleasure of receiving them.
So, purchase the See's small Valentine's Day heart box. or Russell Stover SMALL boxes of chocolates.
That way, there is the gesture. You're playing the old-fashioned note - tender, a gentleman (if what you just wanted was NSA, skip this and just give her a box of rainbow condoms and pray she feels the same way you do), interested in HER. she still gets the chocolate which she still really enjoys. Without 3/4 of the calorie guilt.
Again, it is Wednesday going on Thursday.
GO NOW.
Go to See's and do this on your lunch hour.
Go to Walgreen's or Wal*Mart to purchase the Russell Stover's boxes.
The point is, do NOT wait until the last minute. Or it WILL all be picked over.
Me? I love the Nuts and Chews, milk chocolate, almonds thingies with caramel.
And Pink Roses.
In case you were wondering what to give me!
All the best and Happy Dating!

Well, the President Obama's Economic stimulus plan in under way in Washington, DC.
How about the one for your couple's romantic sex lives?
As a Dating Expert, I have been approached by journalists internationally about tips to give to both singles and married/committed couples for how to survive and thrive this Valentine's Day in a down economy.
One of my dear followers who is one of the most beautiful married ladies I know tells her husband NOT to give her roses on Valentine's Day because of the astronomical premium.
And that premium is one thing in a solid and uptick economy.
What about now?
When you or your spouse or Significant Other is either facing or just experienced being laid off? What about when your jobs or careers are still secure, but who feels like spending extravagantly is in good taste this year like one did not eat in public during the Great Depression because you didn't know when the last meal was had by those OTHER people on the street seeing you? (Yes, my parents who were born into that era taught me that one, to be compassionate for others.)
Well, GOOD NEWS!
OK, on the topic of FLOWERS.
Here it is still TUESDAY evening.
GO NOW! Go now to the various internet flower websites and order flowers now.
What is so cool is you will STILL get great prices by doing this.
You will NOT be spending those premium prices to arrange for roses your lady beloved on Valentine's Day.
So Lisa honey, your dear husband can STILL give you roses like he wants to do with his lady fair! LET him express his sweet romantic tender masculine heart to you and give you roses. Just let him do it online!
More Valentine's Day tips to come all this week!

Whether you are a single person, married couple, committed couple, it can seem like THE BIG FINAL EXAM pressure and tensions when February 14th starts to approach.
Yes folks, I am talking about..
VALENTINE'S DAY!
I can hear all the poor men cringe and groan.
What IS it about Valentine's Day that is so beloved and simultaneously dreaded?
The PRESSURE of THE EXPECTATIONS.
I am SERIOUS here.
I hear from single women, griping that their boyfriends gave them red roses.
"He didn't take the time to find out what I LIKE!"
Or the poor men who are newly back in the dating sphere, single dads, divorced dads, getting back into dating, the internet dating sites, and finding so many of the single girls' expectations have changed since they were last dating.
Here it is February 5th, 2009. In some metro areas, if you don't already have a reservation made back in January, forget about it. Unless you are Brad Pitt's assistant or making the reservation for Britney Spears, it is ALREADY too late.
Everything which is darling and filled with candlelight is already taken.
Feels like you can't win for losing?
Really, I understand.
Let me help you out a little here with some dating relationship advise.
Easy Dating Tip: Make Your Reservations at a great Steak House.
Quite often still have tables on Valentine's Day available. Ruth Chris. Black Angus. Go for it!
Often the good steak houses are still quite romantic and supportive of women's current diet trends towards Atkins Diet and South Beach Diet of focusing on protein. And often steak house are dimly lighted, which translates to her feeling it is a romantic environment.
All this week I will post about lifesaving easy dating tips for men to survive and thrive through Valentine's Day!
All the best!
Happy Dating,

OK, so now I am actually HOME and happily ensconced on my own couch having returned from Dave Lakhani's Speaker event. I originally met Dave via Motivational Speaker Kevin Hogan I am back in the saddle, drinking my beloved Peets coffee and looking at my social calendar. Yeah, yeah, with me, that means I may be headed out of town again. However, in the meantime, time to go out on some more dates.
What about you? Are you a single guy or single gal? Are you in a romantic sex relationship? and do you want to be?
How is your singles dating life going?
Well....It's Wednesday. What're your social plans for this weekend?
If you don't HAVE any social plans yet for this weekend, then it is time to get cracking! (Don't make me whump you upside your cyber head, ok?)
You can start with a fabulous Thursday night Girls Night Out for drinks. Go out with a group of your girlfriends, keeping the group to about 3-4 friends, so you are an approachable SIZED group for single men.
1. Sit at the little tables up near the bar where you are VISIBLE and there is ROOM to easily interact with you.
2. DO flirt with the men at the table next to you.
3. Go up to the bar one at a time to order and wait for your drinks, breaking yourself away from your female Herd so single men can SEE and PERCEIVE you.
4. While you are at the bar ordering and waiting for your fabulous cocktail, DO flirt with and lightly interact with the men there. Just a few flitting little sentences. "Oh that looks good! what is it?" "Oh pardon me, can I squeeze in here to order a drink? Thank you! Such a gentleman!"
Any light little flirting femmy words which you can get out of your mouth, DO!
And if you are thinking, "Oh April, but maybe I don't want to pick those men up...." and then you're thinking, "So, I won't flirt."
STOP THAT RIGHT NOW!
This is not about picking up THOSE particular men.
This is about YOU developing a HABIT of flirting to be successful with men wherever you go.
Go ahead and make plans today for tomorrow evening!
Have fun and Happy Dating!

Today I did some practicing what I preach and taking my OWN medicine.
1. I got my hair DONE at Joseph Cozza Salon so I look MY best. (Christopher and Jesse each did a GREAT job with my hair! I look FABULOUS.)
AND
2. I invested some time in DECLUTTERING within my home. My brother, aka The Groom (he's getting married in 2 weeks, so yes, I have even MORE witness to What Words for How to Get Married and fall in love) even commented on it.
"You've been doing something."
I LOVE (seriously, I DO!) male communication.
Women, we would have gushed.
Men? direct, taciturn, darling.
Indeed, I am working on cleaning, decluttering and LETTING go of the unnecessary things.
Now, a birthday card my late mother gave me, THAT is necessary to hang onto.
A plant which is only .05% alive, is NOT. THAT went into the garbage.
Now, WHERE is Wardrobe Planning Expert, Style Maven Jennifer Skinner of TVSC with HER keep is small elegant and simple ways? Jennifer, I always want to ping you after I have done ANY decluttering to get my little pats on the back (even we COACHES crave OUR pats on the back like we give our clients!) to further encourage me to keep up the good work.
Because indeed, when you are a single guy or single gal, a Feng Shui principle (Chinese New Year is approaching, so I have to mention something of Asian and Chinese derivation to honor the day!) for Feng Shui for Romance and Attracting Love is to MAKE ROOM FOR IT.
So, I am letting go of anything of DEAD energy like the dead plants and sorting through and recycling (practicing good stewardship is always a GOOD thing!) all that wasted paper from all the junk mail.
As a single man or single woman, often one needs to add just a TOUCH of the opposing energy to enliven and INVITE the opposite sex into your home and life.
Even if you don't BELIEVE in espouse the Feng Shui philosophy, this really is VERY practical.
Guys, women feel more invited and comfortable if there is just a TOUCH of softness (YIN ENERGY) in your bedroom and living room (the two rooms you are HOPING to invite her into). A toss pillow or two. A curtain on your windows. SOMETHING to soften all that YANG ENERGY from masculine YOU!
Gals! OK, so we LOVE Cottage Chic and all that chintz etc. However, men buy leather couches.
So, God forbid, have SOMETHING wood, metal, or leather in your living room and few more masculine objects like tall candles next to your bed.
Hope that gives you some fun ideas for attracting LOVE!
All the best!
Happy Dating!

Indeed, as a dating expert and online dating coach, single gals are often relating tales of their own beliefs that men want them all to be 20, gorgeous, body perfect, like porn stars or something. At least, that is what the single women are thinking and fearing.
well, let me give you some relief. that is NOT the case.
Indeed, what men, not boys, are actually looking for is some maturity which we can all work on.
And they want YOU to look YOUR best.
You do not have to look or be body perfect. Cancel the major plastic surgery appointment. (a little is FINE if it helps you feel YOUR most attractive YOU!).
Instead, do get your skin cared for well by a stolid dermatologist and get facials regularly so your skin is ITS best. And do you 35SPF sunscreen to keep it YOUTHFUL looking.
Also, next visit to your salon (I'm going tomorrow.) be sure to get your hair styled with a current style, not one from 10 years ago like the Jennifer Aniston look from 1995. (Maybe look at her new look on the cover of GQ instead!) Get your color and style updated regularly.
The idea here is to be YOUR best self.
Not someone else.
Indeed, single men (and single women) are attracted to REAL people. They just want us to make an effort to look GOOD, our best selves.
And they are right.
We are worth it!
Happy Dating!
